  2. insulation

Sealing air leaks and improving home insulation in and around a house’s walls, ceiling, attic, floors, doors and windows is one of the easiest ways to improve energy efficiency, and get a lower utility bill. When professionally installed, this home improvement can lower a home’s heating and cooling costs by 20%, and reduce its total energy bill by 10%.

    heating & cooling

After a home’s air leakage and home insulation needs are addressed, energy efficiency may be further improved by installing smaller, more efficient HVAC systems—a change that can lower energy costs by about 20 percent.

    appliances

Whether it’s a washer, dryer, refrigerator or dishwasher, there’s likely a better, more energy efficient model available. Even a CFL light bulb uses about 75% less energy than a traditional incandescent bulb (and lasts six times longer).

    water heaters

Thanks to improved energy efficiency, new water heaters can use 10 to 50 percent less energy than standard models—leading to less Heat Bleed, and a lower utility bill.

    windows & doors

Replacing old windows and skylights with newer ones is an energy efficient home improvement that can reduce a utility bill by 7 to 15 percent. Doors, too, can be optimized to eliminate loss.
